The Iron Wall af Avi Shlaim (Bog)

This book helps to understand the debate within Israel about the possibility of peace with the Palestinians.

This is both a scholarly and a wonderfully readable account of how Israeli political and intellectual leaders have interpreted the doctrine of the 'Iron Wall' to justify their approaches to the Arab world. Avi Shlaim has drawn on many original sources including his own interviews with Israeli politicians and their advisers. This is a must read for anyone seeking to understand the debate within Israel about the possibility of peace. Additionally, Shlaim demonstrates how Israel's pursuit of an 'iron wall' strategy has built up policies of unassailable strength while missing opportunities for peace.
